Edmonton made one final march downfield before the end of the third quarter, but was stopped in the red zone before a 15-yard chip shot by Sergio Castillo cut Calgary’s lead in half, 22-11. Elks defensive tackle Jake Ceresna then hauled down Maier for his second sack of the game, forcing the Stampeders to settle for a field goal from the red zone.
And that was all Maier needed in the way of an invitation to fire a pin-point pass to Begelton at the back corner of the end zone to go ahead 22-8. Edmonton punted it right back following another bobbled snap, which Cornelius was at least able to hop on before being sacked a second time by Folarin Orimolade.

The rookie wideout out of Oregon got in behind cornerback Natrell Jamerson for his first career touchdown to cap the six-play, 90-yard drive that knotted the score 7-7 heading into the second quarter. And just when everything looked to be coming together, Cornelius fumbled the ball away again when a pursuing Shawn Lemon came up with a strip sack and Cameron Judge knocked it out of bounds. But the Elks got it back on an interception by Mark McLaurin on a pass intended for Kamar Jorden, and managed to take over the lead ahead of halftime on a 51-yard punt single by Jon Ryan. It didn’t last half a quarter, as Reggie Begelton caught an eight-yard touchdown at the end of a six-play, 61-yard drive that Calgary turned into a 15-8 advantage, thanks to a successful two-point conversion catch by Henry. The home side got it right back, following a blocked punt by Romeo McKnight that saw Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund gain possession of the ball for the Stampeders in the red zone.
Those numbers overshadowed Jake Maier’s 18-of-26 for 238 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, but the Stampeders still came out on top in this one, despite being out-offenced 305 yards to Edmonton’s 331 yards. Cornelius had to stiff arm a defender while rolling out to cap a 10-play, 70-yard drive with a touchdown toss to the back of the end zone to Jalin Marshall that went in the books for all of five yards, and brought Edmonton within seven points of Calgary’s lead with five minutes remaining. But a 37-yard reception by Henry set up a 40-yard field goal attempt by Rene Paredes that, instead of making it a two-score game, missed wide left to count for a single. It would still be more than they needed, anyway, after Cornelius was nearly intercepted on back-to-back passes on the way to a turnover on downs that sealed the deal.
